NYC Woman Said She Didn’t Want Kids. Her Hinge Date Thought He Could Change Her Mind.
Modern dating comes with a lot of options, and while there might be many fish in the sea, not all of them are great catches. Amanda Martinez (@amandalmartinezz) installed Hinge in hopes of finding her perfect match. But upon meeting him, the man confessed a secret that made her walk away.
“I hate people right now. I just left my date at the table,” Martinez shared on TikTok. What could he have possibly done to offend her? Did he try to force her to eat protein just like her other date? According to Martinez, she partly feels “bad” about standing the man up, but he had apparently crossed a boundary of hers.
“My non-negotiables are literally listed on my Hinge,” Martinez stated. She didn’t want a man who voted for Trump, is super-religious, has children, or wants children in the future. These are her deal-breakers, and she even warned others not to swipe right on her if they fit any of those descriptors.
“Every time I match with somebody before I go on a date with them, I make us go on a phone call, and I reiterate every single thing that’s on my Hinge profile.” It seems that Martinez’ approach to dating is intentional. People don’t often have time and energy to entertain others who can’t even meet their minimum requirements.
And yet despite having spoken to her Hinge match about her non-negotiables, the man still agreed to meet up with her. What Martinez didn’t know is that the man crosses one of her non-negotiables.
Her Hinge match was desperate to meet her
“We’re waiting for our food. Everything was going well,” Martinez recalled. Yet, somewhere along their conversation, someone broached the subject of kids. When that was brought up, the man finally confessed.
“I actually have a kid,” the man told her. Martinez did not want to date someone with kids, and yet, the man just revealed that he has one.
“I beg your finest pardon. What do you mean by that?” Martinez was stunned. She had repeatedly said that she wasn’t interested in people with children. According to Martinez, the man’s Hinge profile didn’t indicate that he has a child. During their phone call, he also didn’t disclose the fact to her.
“I already know at that immediate moment, we’re not ever going to see each other again. Like, the second I walk out, I’m ghosting you,” Martinez said. She had already made up her mind to leave the man. He had opportunities to tell her about his predicament but let it reach this point where they’re already on a date.
The date had tried to defend himself to Martinez, explaining why he hid the fact from her. Apparently, he had justified his actions by saying that if he had told Martinez that he had a child, she wouldn’t have shown up on their date. From Martinez’ perspective, the man was aware of her boundaries, but he didn’t seem to care about the line she drew.
At this point, Martinez was already fuming. She excused herself, telling him she’d go to the bathroom. After that, she returned to the table, picked up the check, and told her date she was leaving. He seemed stunned that Martinez was leaving so soon, but she told him that she couldn’t accept how he’d crossed her boundaries and lied to her.
“I’m just going to start leaving dates at the table. I don’t care. The moment you make me feel uncomfortable, the moment you say something you shouldn’t have, the moment that you lie to me or the moment that I know you’re lying to me? I’m just going to walk away from you,” Martinez stated. She also encouraged other women to start doing the same thing.
At least she left him with nothing to pay, unlike this man who left his date with a $120 tab at a nail salon.
