Thanks to Danny Elfman, Trump Creeping Behind Hillary Gets a Horror Movie Score

If you watched the second presidential debate and, like many others, noticed that Donald Trump seemed to have a tendency to hover behind Hillary Clinton every time she had the floor to discuss issues with undecided voters–well, you weren’t alone. In addition to all the internet quips and memes that emerged in the aftermath, one contribution of note casts Trump’s lurking in a more… sinister light.

Composer Danny Elfman, who has scored spooky films like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Sleepy Hollow and Tales From The Crypt, decided to lay his own original horror movie music over some debate footage–and yes, this is the real deal. According to Funny Or Die, Elfman couldn’t help but draw comparisons between Trump’s behavior and a classic movie monster: “Watching Trump lurching behind Hillary during the debate felt a bit like a zombie movie, like at any moment he was going to attack her, rip off her head, and eat her brains.”

Elfman’s not the only one who has recently commented on Trump’s creeping–even Hillary herself thought it was odd. Clinton stopped by The Ellen Show to discuss the election and the aftermath of the debates. You can watch part of the interview below, in which she discusses her “shoulder shimmy” moment from the first debate and refers to Trump’s lurking as “weird”:

Hillary’s not wrong–whether it was unconscious or not, Trump’s decision to stalk around behind her was a means for him to try and infringe on the space that they had both been afforded. It’s a sensation many women–and men–can attest to having experienced when someone invades their space, and it’s often used as a way to assert domination over someone else. Again, it’s unclear as to whether or not this was a conscious choice on the part of Trump, but it’s interesting to think about when you look at the footage. Laying a spooky movie music track over the video is one way of coping with the remaining days left until the election, at least.
