I Kill Giants Movie Begins Filming Today, Your Feels Better Get Ready for a Pounding

Recommended Videos

Joe Kelly announced on Twitter today that the movie adaptation of I Kill Giants has just begun filming, kicking off the countdown to when your feels will take a punch right to their soft, fleshy guts.

Last year, we shared the news that Zoe Saldana and Madison Wolfe had been cast to play the lead characters, a fact that we were super excited about.

I Kill Giants is a graphic novel centered on a girl named Barbara (Wolfe) who claims to slay giants. She believes in being a giantslayer so much that it attracts the attention of her school psychologist (Saldana), who wants to investigate just why Barbara acts the way she does. In addition, Barbara’s words and actions have made her a bit of an outcast amongst her peers at school and elsewhere. The book examines the use and even importance of fantasy worlds in children’s imaginations as it slowly unfolds to reveal Barbara’s greatest challenge as a giantslayer.

I won’t spoil the novel, simply because it’s my belief that everybody should absolutely read the book or at least give it a chance. It was one of the first graphic novels I read that showed me comics weren’t confined to the single stereotypical “capes and crusaders” definition. As well, I Kill Giants packs a pretty strong emotional wallop, one that I am sincerely hoping carries over to the screen. There’s a lot to love about writer Kelly and artist J. M. Ken Niimura’s book, and I’m so excited that others feel the same way, enough so that they’d want to make a movie out of it.

What say you? Are you stoked to find out that things are chugging along for the movie?
