Things We Saw Today: Meet Jake, Disneyland’s Newest Star Wars Cantina Bot

Recommended Videos

Disney’s development of Star Wars Land for Disneyland chugs right along, and it seems like they’re bringing out a few toys early for testing amongst crowds. Meet Jake, a service droid who’s been making appearances at the Star Wars Launch Bay in Disneyland. He might remind some of you long-time Disneyland fans of Push, the talking, robotic trash can that roamed Tomorrowland for a while back in the early ‘aughts. (via The Daily Dot)

Take a look at this gorgeous piece of work by filmmaker and animator Daneil Barreto. Barreto used long exposures and lights to create that “light painting” effect that you’ve no doubt seen before, but this video is definitely a striking animation on another level. It’s short and sweet and will leave you hungry for more details about how it was all put together. Kind of like a good magic trick, right? (via Colossal)

  • This Doctor Who Dalek that has dutifully watched over the foyer in BBC’s building in London is apparently doing what Daleks never could: help humanity. In a search for microbes, scientists found that the Dalek model contained some helpful bacteria that could help lead to the development of more antibiotics and medicines. Exterminate… the germs, I guess. (via Gizmodo)
  • Begin with a Disneyland thing, end with a Disneyland thing. As part of its Disney Kingdoms line, Marvel Comics just revealed a brand new comic based on the Enchanted Tiki Room attraction in Disneyland and Disney World. Titled (you guessed it) The Enchanted Tiki Room, it focuses on the adventures of the birds and Tiki gods within. (via Inside The Magic)

Hella stuff. What’d you see today, pal?
