Cosplay Crafting: How to Make DC Super Hero Girls Poison Ivy Belt & Hair Clip

Step 1: Get your cape on!

Recommended Videos

Did you all catch the DC Super Hero Girls TV special that aired on Memorial day? I sure did! It was SO good and fitting that after a day of remembering real-world heroes, everyone could enjoy an exciting DC universe that empowers girls and encourages heroism.

I’m was so excited about the airing that I had no choice but to channel my delight through cosplay by recreating Poison Ivy’s floral accessories! It was a super simple, inexpensive project that you can follow along from my FIRST ever video tutorial! Yes, a video, from me. Woo-hoo! If you have any questions, be sure to leave a comment below—I’d be more than happy to help!

What you’ll need:

  • 1 sheet of pink craft foam, $1
  • 2-3 sheets of green craft foam, $2-$3
  • Hot glue gun, $3
  • Velcro, $3
  • Scissors
  • Cardboard/card stock
  • Sharpie & pen
  • Alligator clip

Step 1: Make your patterns

On a piece cardboard or card stock, freehand your patterns. You’re going to need two vines, one large leaf, one small leaf, and one flower petal.

Step 2: Trace and cut out your floral pattern on craft foam

DCSGirls1

On each corner, carefully cut four little markings in-between to make petals. This is going to help us fold them later!

Step 4: Trace and cut out your leaves and vine patterns

Jessi-tip: Craft foam is perfect for creating a 2D look, not to mention—it is super affordable!

In the end, you’re going to have two stems, two strips (for your belt) six petals, seven small leaves and five big leaves. You’re going to want to cut out two 2-inch-wide strips for your belt too! Measure around your waist for the perfect length.

Step 5: Make your flower

DCSGirls4

Using three petals, fold each petal until a flower is formed. Glue on three big leave on the back and ta-da!

Step 6: Make your belt!

DCSGirls6

Attach two your two strips for your belt and then stems with a small amount of glue.

Step 7: Time to glue!

DCSGirls8

Now add the flower … then the leaves. You ‘re going to use both small and big leaves until you have two small leaves left.

Step 8: Make another flower …

DCSGirls9

Make a flower with the remaining three petal pieces and two small leaves, after attaching the two small leaves to the bottom along with an alligator clip.

You can watch this scene in the video.

Step 10: Ta-da! You’re done.
