Guillermo del Toro Bringing Personal Collection to Art Galleries Around the World

Recommended Videos

Guillermo del Toro is organizing an exhibit of more than 500 pieces from his “Bleak House,” beginning at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and then going to tour to Minneapolis, Toronto, Mexico City, Barcelona, Paris, and New York City from July to November.

In “Welcome to Bleak House,” del Toro gives a short tour of his house, which is full of secret passageways, a “rain room” and his collections, which includes everything from marine biology specimens, octopus tentacles, skulls, replicas of large machines, to Disney. Basically, it’s like walking into his brain. He’s the perfect person to curate an exhibit because he’s such a Renaissance man. If you follow him on Twitter, which you should, del Toro often tweets a wide array of artists, books, and films recommendations.

When he was on Jimmy Kimmel, Kimmel asked if del Toro would consider opening Bleak House as a museum, and he replies he occasionally gives tours. A traveling tour, however, allows fans across the world to get a glimpse into these cabinets of curiosity. With such an extensive collection, it’s hard to predict how the exhibit will look. I’d personally love to see more of his horror memorabilia and Frankenstein collection, but I’m more eager to see how everything will be presented. Del Toro calls curiosity the “liveblood of imagination,” and there’s no doubt that visitors will leave curious and intrigued.
