Next Fullmetal Alchemist Movie Enters the Real World, Will Be a Live-Action Flick

Fans of Fullmetal Alchemist might have a little something to get excited (or worried?) about soon: the anime’s next film installment will be live-action. The show, which already has two full-length animated feature films under its belt, is one of the most wildly popular titles among anime fans. According to Crunchyroll, slated to direct the live-action adaptation is Fumihiko Sori, who has two manga-to-live-action films under his belt: Ping Pong and Ashita no Joe.

Ryosuke Yamada will be taking on the role of Edward Elric, one of the main charactersyou know, the one who isn’t a hulking suit of armor. He’s also got some manga-to-live-action experience, having played Nagisa in the Assassination Classroom film adaptations.

Obviously, the film will make heavy use of CGI and other animation techniques to capture the anime’s striking visual style. Things like their alchemy effects and certain villains (none of whom have been announced, but come on, you know they’re going to be good), are likely to be doused in CGI. Of course, perhaps most obviously of all, Edward’s brother, Alphonse, whose soul is trapped in a hulking suit of armor, is expected to be rendered entirely in CGI.

There aren’t any plot details revealed quite yet, but if you’re a fan of the FMA series, then this movie likely deserves to be on your radar at the very least. Here’s hoping that it does justice to the anime, hm?
