Mad Max: Fury Road Wins Historic at Makeup and Hairstylist Awards

Fury Road has won countless awards and been nominated for many more--at this year's Oscars, it'll be competing for wins in 10 categories--including Best Makeup and Hairstyling. That's where it dominated last night at the Makeup and Hairstylists Guild Awards, earning wins for best period and/or character makeup and best special makeup effects.

Okay, so I do often speak in superlatives, but Mad Max: Fury Road is hands-down one of my favorite movies of all time. There’s so much to appreciate in that film–from its portrayal of a kickass female lead character who just so happens to have a physical disability (though is never depicted as being a person who matters less because of it) to its impressive number of real-time stunts and action sequences to its feminist message.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the film walked away with several wins at the Academy Awards, but it’s always encouraging to learn when it’s been recognized yet again. Also: how cool is it that there’s a special set of awards just for Makeup and Hairstyling? Fingers crossed that Fury Road continues to win all those shiny and chrome trophies–they’re well-deserved.
