Emma Watson Infiltrates a Cult to Save Her Love in Colonia Dignidad

Recommended Videos

Emma Watson’s newest project, Colonia, centers around the real-life story about Colonia Dignidad, a cult camp/torture prison built by General Augusto Pinochet, which was disguised as a religious compound. Watson plays Lena, whose political activist/graphic designer boyfriend Daniel is captured and placed in Dignidad. She goes undercover  to save him by pledging herself as a follower of the “violently misogynistic” sinister minister (rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it), thus earning her a spot in the compound.

Daniel Brühl, whom you may recognize from Inglourious Basterds or Rush, plays Lena’s boyfriend, Daniel (how appropriate). They’re both joined on this project by Michael Nyqvist (John WickThe Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), who plays the minister/leader of the cult.

The movie looks to be incredibly striking, both visually and conceptually. It’s done up in a lot of muted colors, lending a very subdued appearance to the fairly disturbing content, which appropriately reflects the film’s subject matter.

You can expect to check out the movie in theaters and on VOD on April 15th.

What do you think? Is this a film you’d like to check out?
