Recently nominated for best animated short at the César Awards (France’s national film award), La nuit américaine d’Angélique is a simple but powerful short about one woman’s relationship with François Truffaut’s Day for Night, or more specifically, her admiration for Natalie Baye’s script supervisor character. Written by Olivia Rosenthal and voiced by Louise Bourgoin, the short follows Angélique’s developing and changing relationship with cinema as she grows up and sees the relationships around her also change.
Doncvoilà Studio did a fantastic job animating, and the shadow puppetry was really perfect for Angélique’s talk about filmmaking and cinema. Also, including a cute cat is always a plus for me. What did you think about the short?
