Yes, we’ve finally got the cherry on top of this entire bull**** sundae: Neil deGrasse Tyson has finally thrown himself into the rap battle ring. I’ll deduct a few points for lack of a sick beat (TM) under his words, but I’ll also add about a million back in for telling people off about spreading anti-science sentiment, so things come out about even.
For those of you who may not know, rapper B.o.B tried to tell Twitter that the Earth is flat, Tyson dropped knowledge on him, B.o.B released a Tyson diss track, and then Tyson’s nephew came back with his own. (Yeah, it’s been a weird week post-Star Wars news drought and post-blizzard, OK? Give us a break.)
So, we were already pretty much expecting/hoping this would be the eventual outcome. It might seem like a lot of energy wasted over nothing, but as Tyson mentions, it’s one thing for people to believe whatever nonsense they want; it’s quite another when they try to use their influence to spread that nonsense to impressionable people on the Internet. Then, it’s time for some science to step in.
