The Force Awakens will be released in the UK on December 17th. The 100 day countdown starts today!

Posted by Star Wars on Monday, September 7, 2015

It’s as if millions of Americans suddenly cried out in “WTF?”

The Star Wars Facebook page added the above post 7 hours ago, confirming that The Force Awakens will hit UK theaters in 100 days on December 17—one day sooner than in the United States. Then, they further confirmed it as angry nerfherders came out of the woodwork to complain in the comments, but it’s not a mistake; the UK is getting new Star Wars before us.

And according to The Telegraph, so is France, due to a rule that all new movies must release on a Wednesday. That means they’ll be getting the movie on the 16th, so be sure to stay away from any spoiler-happy Europeans the week of the film’s December 18 U.S. release.

Of course, I don’t begrudge happy Star Wars fans on another continent the glee of getting the new movie first (unlike some of those Facebook commenters), but for a movie that’s been kept so under wraps, the lack of a simultaneous release seems counterintuitive. On the plus side, maybe this finally killed your Force Friday toy binge buzz—hopefully while you still had some money left. *BB-8 sounds.*
