New Captain America: Civil War Footage Shown at D23 Has Everyone, Including Ant-Man, Freaking

New bromance alert: Scott Lang/Steve Rogers.

We’re not at the D23 Expo today, but after reading reports of what footage Marvel showed from Captain America: Civil War, we seriously, seriously, seriously wish we were.

Today Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige took the D23 stage alongside Captain American and Falcon Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie to intro said new footage. Apparently Evans and Mackie flew from the Germany set to do this intro and were just about as excited as anyone else in the room to watch it, with The Hollywood Reporter reporting that Evans was heard saying “It’s so good. I love it!” before the clips rolled.

But now on to the good stuff: the actual footage! According to io9, the first clipped showed Cap, Falcon and Black Widow and went down as follows:

It starts with Captain America in a bedroom. “Eyes on target,” he says. Falcon is on the roof and launches a “red wing.” This is a small drone that shoots out of his pack, flies down to the street and under a car. It begins sending Falcon X-rays of the car, and they realize it’s a battering ram. Crossones jumps out of the back, Captain America jumps down to fight him, and he shoots a bomb onto Cap’s shield. Cap is forced to throw his shield into the air, so the explosion doesn’t hurt anyone. The two fight, Falcon flies in and Black Widow runs toward the action—this all takes place in a crowded foreign market place. Crossbones lands some huge punches on Cap with his mechanical arms, and there are knives embedded in them. Widow takes out four men. And just as Cap is about to beat Crossbones, he mentions Bucky. “What did you say?” Cap asks.

Following a throw to the Marvel Studios logo, the focus then moves to William Hurt, who is reprising his character, General Thunderbolt Ross, from The Incredible Hulk. As THR explains, Ross is in Avengers HQ and tells Cap,  “The world owes you an unpayable debt. A lot great many people see you as a hero. There are some who prefer the word vigilante. People are afraid.” Then Cap responds with, “This job, you try to save as many as we can. Sometimes that doesn’t mean everyone.”

There’s also exchange between Bucky and Cap, where Cap tries to get his old pal, now the Winter Soldier, to remember old times (“Bucky, do you know me? Your mother’s name was Sara,” he says). After some more clips, there’s apparently an Avengers reunion, and Iron Man gets in a sweet quip about Cap: “Sometimes I want to punch you in your perfect teeth.”

From then on, there’s a flash of Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther (no Spidey, unfortunately), as well as a moment in which Hawkeye and Black Widow question their friendship (guys, fix this!).  But what sounds like the best moment of all is the scene in which Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang gets introduced to some of the Avengers, including Cap. According to Wired, Lang is super nervous meeting Captain American particularly, shaking his hand far too long before awkwardly saying, “Thinks for thanking of me. Thanks for thinking of me.” Oh, and he also sees Scarlet Witch and says, “I know you too, you’re great.” (Dude!)

Were you at D23 today? Just wish you were? What do you make of this new footage? Does it make you more excited to see Civil War?
