Joking About the Man Fined for Drugging His Girlfriend So He Could Play Video Games Is Awful

Don't do it.

Last August, a 23 year old German man was fined €500 for drugging his girlfriend so he could play video games. He did so because his girlfriend, coming home after a 10 hour shift, didn’t like the noise of his games. Instead of listening, compromising, or talking it out like adults, he decided to slip some drugs into her tea. “I only put four or five drops into her tea,” he says, because, “I didn’t drug her as much as I could have,” is supposed to be some kind of defense?

The next day, his girlfriend woke up and drove to work, where she noticed herself “nodding off again and again.” The man admitted to the crime and being on drugs himself. The judge said “your girlfriend slept long and deeply, which didn’t harm her, but this is certainly a premeditated bodily harm.” The two are now broken up, and the man says that he’s now off drugs and starting an apprenticeship.

I imagine being drugged by your boyfriend probably did hurt her psychologically and she could have been in a car accident driving in that state. While most people have the sense to realize how gross and horrible this violation of trust is, there are a few unfunny jokes and  “haha WOMEN right? always nagging” reactions around. Friendly reminder that drugging women is not, and will never be, funny.
