Server Jokes ‘For Me?’ When Customer Mentions Buying a Chanel Bag. Then He Comes Back 30 Minutes Later With One: ‘I Was So Shocked’

In the United States, most servers expect anywhere from 18% to 20% tip with each bill. In Europe, most servers don’t expect any tip at all. But one woman received an unexpected gift that completely surprised her during a restaurant shift.

European content creator Laura Busborg (@laurabusborg1) posted a video that received more than 1.1 million views. In it, she explained how a customer gave her a Chanel bag after she made a lighthearted joke to him.

“She doesn’t know it yet, but in 15 minutes a drunk man is gonna pass by while she’s opening the restaurant and later come back to eat breakfast and chit chat about his night,” Busborg wrote. “He’s going to Chanel to buy a bag he spotted in the window… She’s going to reply ‘for me?’ as a joke. The same man is going to show up 30 minutes later with a brand new Chanel bag and give it to her.” 

Why Did The Man Give Her The Chanel Bag?

Busborg explained in a subsequent video that she only met the man who gave her the Chanel bag once and that there were no strings attached.

“ I was only talking with him. I was just being patient and talking and, you know, being whatever… I don’t know,” she said.

Viewers, though, seemed astonished that the man simply bought Busborg a bag in the first place. A few viewers questioned his intentions and asked whether the man was trying to hit on her.

“I’m so paranoid I thought this was going another way,” one viewer said.

“Can’t you buy it yourself? ur independent,” another viewer asked.

Most commenters were excited that Busborg received the bag. They reflected that similar situations had never happened to them before.

“I never win these giveaways,” one commenter said.

Another commenter said, “What a random lovely act of kindness.”

Busborg clarified in the comment section of her video that the man was around 50 years old, but as of this writing, she hasn’t shared any additional information. She unboxed the bag at work in a follow-up video, and then did another official unboxing of the white Chanel bag later on.

What’s The Average Cost of a Chanel Bag?

Most viewers were happy for (and jealous of) Busborg for getting the Chanel bag. But some wondered how far the man’s kindness really went. How much does the average Chanel bag even cost?

Chanel bags come with hefty prices. By 2023, many Chanel bags cost $10,000+, according to Bolsino. Chanel prices in the U.S. went up by 3.8% from 2025 to 2026, according to BragMyBag. With rising inflation, some bags increased in price by $200 to $400.

MyGemma, a fashion publication, says that “prices at Chanel are constantly increasing. The most popular Chanel Classic Flap bag in black with goldware used to retail at $2,850 in 2010. Today, the Small Classic Flap retails for $9,600.”
