Marvel’s Editor in Chief Says Missing Manara Variants Are Due to a “Scheduling Problem”

Yesterday we reported on the cancellation of two variant covers for Marvel by Milo Manara, the artist on the Spider-Woman #1 variant. Now a report by Comic Book Resources states it was merely a scheduling issue.

PREVIEWSworld didn’t have much information other than the Manara covers were not happening anymore and would be replaced with other artists. Before posting our story yesterday we emailed Marvel to find out why that was but never received a response.

Many, ourselves included, posited it might have been a reaction to the Spider-Woman cover response. However, in an interview with Comic Book Resources, Editor in Chief Axel Alonso did not claim that as a cause:

“Clearly, unequivocally, I want to state that this is only a scheduling problem,” Alonso told CBR. “The Manara covers were recast due to his schedule. He will be doing more covers for us, in fact, he’s working on one right now that will be announced sometime soon. This is purely an issue of his schedule not permitting him to do the two covers, ‘AXIS’ #1 and ‘Thor’ #2. We overbooked him, and the timing didn’t work out.”

So there you have it, folks.
