Everyone’s favourite grizzled Canadian superhero needs some love in his home province. Edmonton, Alberta resident Jessie Seitz has set up a petition that endeavours to get a life-sized statue of Alberta native Wolverine erected somewhere in the province’s capital.
The petition needs 100 000 supporters, and right now it’s hovering around 2500, so it’s got several kilometres to go. In order to “raise morale” and “make a lot of people really proud to live in Edmonton,” here’s the petition Seitz (and everyone who supports it) is sending to the town’s mayor:

Please consider the opinions of the citizens who have signed this petition towards the creation of a life sized Wolverine statue to be placed somewhere in this great city of Edmonton to be viewed by all who live here and visit, as Wolverine is a Canadian and Albertan symbol of strength, perseverance in the face of tragedy, and overall heroics.

It’s true that Canada doesn’t have a lot in the way of superheroes—though projects like Nelvana of the Northern Lights and Captain Canuck are working to improve the calibre of our northern comic heroes. Wolverine is certainly the most famous native Albertan character, and in a province primarily known for cows and oil, it’s pretty excellent that someone wants to centre some praise around this cultural icon. Seitz suggests City Hall, Churchill Square, or the Alberta Legislature as potential locations for the instalment of the statue. Personally, I think lots of travellers to Alberta would love to bask in this statue’s Logan-y glow.
