Syfy has just made me very happy.
The Hollywood Reporter had the exclusive news of director Mike Cahill getting hired for the gig. Cahill is screenwriter and director and while I haven’t seen his latest, I Origins, yet (though TMS reviewed the film and interviewed the director) his work with Brit Marling on Another Earth blew me away.
“We were impressed with Mike’s feature work and his passion for this material,” Bill McGoldrick, evp original content at Syfy told THR. “We are very excited that he will be the one bringing The Magicians to life.”
I was extremely excited when I first learned Lev Grossman’s fantasy series would be getting adapted. I will forever describe it as Harry Potter and the Chronicles of Narnia for adults though some say it’s way more than that. I’ve yet to read the third book in the series, The Magician’s Land so like, don’t spoil anything for me, pretty please.
I think the project has changed some since it was first announced but THR says John McNamara (who wrote episodes of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and more recently In Plain Sight) and Sera Gamble (Supernatural) will be writing the script and production will start later this year.
