This blast from the past reminds us that it’s not just comic books and video games that labor under the stigma of being bad for intellectual development. Â In fact, this is a cycle that human beings have been going through pretty much every time a new artistic medium becomes real popular with the younger generation. Â The motion picture industry inspired a bit of histeria, and, going back further, even works of fiction in novel form were considered unsuitable for consumption by young ladies. Â The idea was that if a woman spent too much time reading, she would eventually become unsuitable as a wife and mother.
It’s probably far to late for me, but at least that means I can finish reading A Princess of Mars.
