Can I Convince You to Watch the Hot Vampire Show Yet?

Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac and Sam Reid as Lestat de Lioncourt

Sometimes, it is hard to commit to a new show. In the modern era when a new season might only come out every few years, even more so. Luckily, shows like Interview With the Vampire and now the new season, The Vampire Lestat, are here for all our needs.

Based on the Anne Rice novels of the same name, the series tells the love story of Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) and the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid). But why is this one you should dedicate your time to? Because it is just as delicious as the novel that inspired it.

Part of what makes me want to scream about Interview With the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat is that I have to continually tell people to watch it. It’s fanbase knows how good the show is but convincing everyone else in the world to watch feels like an uphill battle. Why? I don’t know. I have been here since the beginning of the show but it is one of those moments where I just want to sit someone down like Alex in A Clockwork Orange and for them to watch it.

But now, as we’re getting ready for the third season (and the first of Lestat’s POV) to begin, it is the perfect time to dive into the AMC series. And you can, if you haven’t yet, watch it all in the few days left before The Vampire Lestat is released.

What every fan should love

Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) interviews Louis at his home in Dubai. Throughout the first season, we’re only really getting Louis’ story with Lestat in New Orleans, including the creation of their daughter Claudia (played by Bailey Bass in season 1). But when Armand (Assad Zaman) enters the picture, the story takes a different form. It is no longer just Louis’ version of events but also Armand’s. And with Louis and Claudia (Delainey Hayles in season 2 and 3) separated from Lestat, the world of Rice’s vampires continues to grow.

So much of this show works because of the people surrounding Louis and Lestat. The fanbase proves that, with many loving Daniel and Armand more than anything else. But what works for me is that it always seems to come back to how these two characters are forever drawn together as maker and lover.

The perfect kind of vampire show

What has always worked about Rice’s vampire world is how messy the vampires are. The show does not shy away from that. Lestat is, as he always has been, dramatic and over the top. But the show is ultimately about the nuance to storytelling and who is really telling the “truth” in any given situation. Showrunner Rolin Jones and his team do a great job of making it abduntantly clear that you’re not seeing the honest person in any given moment when someone else is telling the story.

In Louis’ version of events, Lestat was a complete monster at times to him. Lestat, obviously, paints himself in a different light and it is fascinating to see how the back and forth works throughout the series. Which you would know, if you watched the show.

This is just one of those moments where I do feel a little unhinged when it comes to convincing people something is good. Especially for the “vampire” fans out there in the world. As someone who grew up as a vampire girl, it was a no brainer to watch this. But I have encountered other fans who haven’t taken the bite out of the AMC series yet.

So please, take this as my cry for help: I need more people to watch this how. I need it to be as big as all those other shows you love to talk about again and again. Because The Vampire Lestat is the best season of the show yet and we all need to keep the love for the stormy romance of Louis and Lestat going!
