Fantastic Beasts Series Gets An Official Filming Location

Are you excited yet?

Any Harry Potter fan who is anyone has heard about the new film adaptation of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. And if you’re as mega-fan as I am, you are way too excited that your entire childhood doesn’t have to end just yet!

Warner Bros. revealed today that when filming does start on the new movies, they will keep it in the same location that all of the other Harry Potter movies have been filmed. The Leavesden facility that was home to the series that stole my childhood is gaining an extra 100,000 square feet of space to create three new stages.

If you’re planning a trip to the theme park in Orlando, you may get to see a bit of an easter egg tease for the film. Go into the Magical Menagerie in Diagon Alley, look up, and you’ll be treated to the first look at some animals in the HP universe that have never previously been visualized. Personally, I’m hoping to see a real live fwooper at some point. My fangirl heart would go crazy!

The one bonus about seeing the fantastical beasts in a movie vs real life, though, is that we don’t have to deal with the smell that comes with taking care of animals — even if they aren’t real! According to Warwick Davis, who everyone knows as both Griphook and Professor Flitwick, it took several days to film the Great Hall scenes and food would often remain out and on the table the entire time. By the third or fourth day of filming, you could apparently smell the Great Hall before you even walked in – and it wasn’t pleasant. Oh the joys of filming!

No specific casting information or directors have been announced for Fantastic Beasts and there’s actually relatively little information about the film out right now, but what is there makes it sound like it’s going to live up to the original Harry Potter series. The few details that are set in stone is that it follows Newt Scamander, the author of the Fantastic Beasts book in the HP universe, in 1920s New York.

1920s. New York City. Harry Potter.

Can it be November 2016 now?!
