Oldboy Remake Gets a Trailer, Looks Surprisingly Awesome [Video]

I’m usually not the biggest fan of American remakes of foreign films — at best they’re not as good as the original, and at worst they’re just incredibly disappointing. So color me surprised that the trailer Spike Lee’s Oldboy, which is based on a 2003 South Korean film that was in turn adapted from a mid-’90s Japanese film, actually looks pretty cool. We won’t know for sure until it drops on October 25th whether this version of the story — of a man who gets kidnapped and held in solitary confinement for decades and then suddenly released  — will live up to its predecessors, but you never know. At least Josh Brolin and Samuel L. Jackson seem to be having fun.
