Weird: The Al Yankovic Story [Rousing Biopic]

Recommended Videos

Fresh off the scandal wrought by his leaked sex tape, Weird Al Yankovic is going to be the center of an upcoming biopic that its promoters say is sure to sweep the 2011 Academy Awards: Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.

A disclaimer: its promoters are FunnyorDie.com, spearheaded by writer/director/funny guy Eric Appel, and it probably isn’t actually going to be made. But it touches on the greatest of music movie cliches: disapproving parents, a sleazy, goateed record exec — played by the real Weird Al — who says that the biopic Weird Al is a fool (“Nobody wants to hear a parody song when they can hear the real thing for the same price”), followed by fame, romance, a spiral into alcoholism, and jail time.

The Best Line Award here surely goes to Patton Oswald, playing an especially rabbinical-looking Dr. Demento: “By changing the lyrics and making them about food, you could change the world!”
