House Democrat Says We’re “Stuck in the Upside Down” Because Government Is Just Memes Now

Politicians are always looking for good ways to connect with the youths, and in recent years, that has resulted in some weird talk about superheroes, Hillary Clinton’s facepalm-inducing Pokémon GO joke, tweets being printed out and displayed in the Senate (and at press briefings), and now … this.

Yes, you’re looking at House Representative David Cicilline with a poster-size Stranger Things title joke of middling quality as he talks about how Donald Trump has us living in the upside down. If you’re not sure whether you want to laugh or cringe, you’re not alone, but frankly, I can’t blame members of congress for scrambling for any way possible to get people to care what’s going on there.

We still have three whole branches of government (so far, anyway), and it’s their job to do what’s right for the American people, not whatever the president wants. After all, Republicans lost seats in both houses of Congress in the 2016 election, even though they managed to hang onto a majority. They’re running scared from their own town hall meetings, but we need to keep paying attention and stay on top of them to make sure they work for all of us.
