The Chase: A Lesson In Sticking Around Until the End of the Party [Video]

While this video game-style short, The Chase by Philippe Gamer, is very cool from the start, with a car chase fit for the likes of French Connection and The Blues Brothers, it isn’t exactly what it seems. We strongly urge you to watch the whole thing to the end. You will be very happy you did.

When our age group hits the nursing homes, this is what we’re gonna be doing, that’s for sure.  But what’s interesting to think about is, what are the children of the future going to be getting up to that we cannot relate to?  We’re going to be just as behind the times as the older folks of today, but we’re going to be behind the time of some new, weird future crap.  Gundams maybe?  “Grandpa, what was it like before we flew giant robot suits everywhere?”  And we’ll tell some rambling story about cars and gasoline, and little Jimmy will give us that polite pity look that kids are starting to give me even now… children ruin everything.

Is there any form of media I can escape being called a “bitch” in? *sigh*

Haha apparently I’m not the only one who knows she’ll still be playing video games as an old lady.

At first I was horrified at the carnage, all the death and destruction, and disgusted by the laissez-faire attitude the women were displaying as people were dying horrifically.  Then I saw the end, and I understood.  (It kind of cheated with the cuts back to the police and the camera angles, but I guess that was inevitable given the “reveal,” and you could argue something about cutscenes and whatnot)

I thought that, up until the first swearword, lol.  Remember, horrific deplorable violence is ok, just so long as they don’t use any naughty words ;-)

Kinda like it, kinda don’t … the good stuff?  I love Trackmania a LOT, so this really played into it.  The bad stuff?  Playing to racial stereotypes, infantilizing the women (especially jarring at the end), the way the whole thing felt like an advert.

This has left me feeling highly conflicted.

it pretty much describes what we’re all gonna be doing when we’re older while our grandkids are playing with some sort of virtual reality gizmo.

Ahaha, so true! I’d like to think that I’d want to use a Gundam even in my old age. Especially in my old age.  That would be too awesome. The possibility gave me chills.

Actually our group is planning on retiring somewhere where we can hang out and play DnD as much as we want.  A bowling alley and pub would be nice as well.

I hope people are still playing DnD (or other tabletops) someday when I retire! I never considered this particular benefit…
