American Idol Star Rewrites Cell Block Tango So Disney Villains Can Perform It [VIDEO]

A little while ago we posted a YouTube video someone put together of Disney animation to the song “Cell Block Tango” from Chicago. We thought it was a really fun idea. And now we’ve watched this. Holy crap. American Idol finalist Todrick Hall wrote “Spell Block Tango” and got Adam Lambert, Shoshana Bean, Cassie Scerbo, Amber Riley, Blake McGrath, Kimberly Cole and Pia Toscano to star as some of our favorite Disney villains and perform it as a Halloween viral video. Bravo, ladies and gentlemen. Bravo!

The first time I watched this, I had -no- idea what the Queens of Hearts was saying.

She’s listing the names of Disney characters! I definitely heard Tiger Lily, Lefou, and Madame de la Gran Bouche in that bunch.

I heard Lefou and Dormouse, I figure she’s just saying random things, since she’s not supposed to make sense, generally speaking, but I probably missed a lot.

Single my glass – love it!

Cruella DeVille was the best! As always! :D

    This is my favorite thing.

This was amazing and beautiful from start to finish. And I particularly liked Toddy’s Scar. What a wonderful voice! I liked the twists on the familiar stories, too. Was the Queen of Hearts just listing secondary characters? There were enough recognizable names in there that I’m assuming all of them were. I’ll have to watch again. What a shame. ;)

This is a great concept, but I can’t help but feel like it would’ve been way better if their stories were about how the heroes framed them.

I completely agree. I was expecting it to be “She had it coming” and was support of surprised when they started singing “He had it coming.” I was like “weren’t the people most of them actively working against female?” And then I was sad that it wasn’t a re-telling of the stories from the villain’s perspective and instead they made up new stories.

Yeah, I didn’t think the lyrics were really changed up enough at all, but the production value was high and everyone looked and sounded great. :D

Those are definitely Disney characters. Pretty obscure ones too. I heard Drusilla (Cinderella’s stepsister), Archimedes (Merlin’s owl), Banzai (hyena from The Lion King), Slue-Foot Sue (from an old Pecos Bill cartoon), Amelia Fieldmouse (Mickey’s sister), and Humphrey the Bear (a Yogi Bear type who annoyed a park ranger). I wonder if they just opened Wikipedia and grabbed a bunch of random names.

… considering how decapitation-happy the Red Queen is, I find the thought of her just listing names…chilling.

Wow… that Scar is a GREAT singer.

The costumes and singing in this are freaking awesome, but I can’t help but feel that the lyrics and songwriting in this seem to just be….kind of lazy. They changed very little of the structure of the song…I wish, like Robin said, that it had been at least somewhat related to their actions in the stories, rather than just substituting in Disney names for the named characters already in the song. *sigh*

I don’t like having Disney even mentioned with this video. Disney is suppose to be for kids and this video is way 2 sexual for kids. There are way to many people out there from Disney’s past that give them enough of a bad name.

    Love this.
