Someone Found All The Horror References In Guillermo Del Toro’s Simpsons Intro [VIDEO]

Just the other day we showed you the amazingly detailed Guillermo del Toro intro to the upcoming “Treehouse of Horror” episode of The Simpsons. The folks at MoviePilot decided to go through it with a fine-tooth comb and label every reference they could find. Apparently commenters found a few more but I think they deserve a huge round of applause because, woah. The video autoplays (stop that, people!) so we’ve placed it after the jump.

I think the statue falling on Ralph is a reference to Hot Fuzz… no?

I think they missed Pepper from American Horror Stories…. or maybe it’s just wishful thinking :P

Ha ha, ha ha, you missed MEEEEE, you missed MEEEE!

  • BaldBombshell

They named it. It’s Schlitzie from Freaks.

Some fine references there. This Island Earth? Phantom of the Paradise? Nice.

  • Alan Passman

Milhouse is riding the bike that Bran steals from Data’s little sister in Goonies.

Love it! Almost as good an opening as the one Banksy did for The Simpsons a few years ago.

  • frankenmouse

Good on them for not labeling that last reference. And I can’t believe I never caught Rod Sterling any of the times I watched this!

  • Jen Rock

I thought the car was Christine, but I could be wrong. I love this intro so hard.

  • Jen Rock

I also thought the modified Blinkie was a reference to Pirhanna.

  • calciferboheme

No, it was from the 1977 James Brolin movie “The Car”. Christine would have worked well too, but I’m glad they went the route they did :)

  • calciferboheme

I missed a few, some of which I’m kicking myself a bit over. But whatever, the joy of the video never diminishes. Especially the bits with the Phantoms and Richard Matheson looking disgusted. :D

That’s been in the new intro for a while, now (though in the normal version Ralph’s head doesn’t pop off.)

You think so? I really thought it was just a standard girls bike, cuz, well Milhouse.

  • Anonymous

Not sure about that, but just behind you see Dr Hibbert being chased by a mob. That looks like the famous scene in invasion of the body snatchers to me.

There’s the Penny Farthing logo from Prisoner to the right of the comic book shop very (very) briefly just after the head-toppling scene.

Dafuq did I read at 2:20? Unless Del Toro is doing something very bizarre with the script, Cthulhu has nothing to do with At The Mountains of Madness.

  • Emily Walton

The last one, is that Hellboy 2, or Pan’s Labyrinth again? It’s been ages since I’ve seen either.

  • Anonymous

I was checking the wiki on :At The Mountains of Madness” is says this ” including the Elder Things’ conflicts with the Star-spawn of Cthulhu and the Mi-go,”

  • Emily Walton

Ah, I’d forgotten about that. Thanks.
