    These are fabulous.

Is it wrong to think that these grown up versions of cartoon characters are really, really ridiculously good looking?

  • Ashe

    They’re…all grown up…

    ;~;

  • Laura Truxillo

I’m a little underwhelmed by the thing where every single grown-up version, no matter how weird-looking as a kid, is a conventionally attractive (and thus less distinctive) adult. I’d've liked to have seen more variety in the face-shapes, and something to call back to the child-versions aside from clothes and hair color.

Still a really cute idea. And aw, Magic School Bus Arnold is kind of adorable.

I would definitely watch a magic school bus reunion where Ms. Frizzle gets lost and the class, now in college, has to go rescue her.

  • Emerald White

There is that rather terrifying fan video, where the class has to rescue the Frizz from hell.

Yeah All these designs turn memorable and distinctive cartoons into standard real life people. Most don’t even have any features to link them to their classic counterparts which is a pity. The artist can draw really well though…

  • Mike Perry

To me, what was most notable was these looked more like some fashion sketches than fan art. And that goes with the ridiculously good looks of almost all of them.

    Chuckie looks horrendous.

I came fore Pepper Ann and THEN I SAW KIKI!!! O_O

  • Harrison Grey

    They’re… all hipsters…

It seems unlikely that Tommy would have black hair. Didn’t his dad have purple hair and his mom red hair?

  • Anonymous

Does that mean that the kids from the Magic Schoolbus got out of hell?

  • Anonymous

It looks purple in the large version of the image.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, they all have roughly the same body types (accounting for gender, of course) and in the group picture it looks like all the kids are within a couple inches of each other, height-wise (again, accounting for gender). That seems… unlikely. And definitely more what you’d see in fashion drawing, which requires very little range when it comes to drawing bodies.

Huh, maybe it’s just my computer screen then.

Actually, if you look at more of her designs, she has a few characters of varied appearance and size. For example, Pepper Anne in the full picture is a bit thicker, which I figured was an intentional reference to her mother’s bigger size as she ages, compared to how stick thin the cartoon character is.

Likewise, she has fuller designs for Daria’s Andrea, Rugrats’ Kimmy, and Recess’s Ashley B, among some others (like human Starbucks lemonade?)

In the “All Grown Up” series, he has purple/gray hair, which basically reads “a colorful way to indicate black” to me, kind of like anime characters with black hair, but a colored shine (ala Rei Hino, etc.).

  • Roberta

I hear and understand your logic. But for my own happiness I am ignoring it.

Am I the only one who thinks Phil and Lil look too clean? I mean, these are the kids who kept cookies in their diapers and played with worms.

  • Laura Truxillo

I’m more weirded out by the face shapes. I mean, Arnold’s football head would be a little odd to render in real life, but it would be nice to see some of them be kinda…funny looking. Tommy looking more like his father, big nose and all, Phil and Lil looking more like either of their parents (the father was skinny, the mother was wider). And Helga way less conventionally attractive–certainly retaining her iconic monobrow.

They’re not bad drawings at all. Mike was pretty accurate–they look a bit like fashion sketches, sort of like a fashion cosplay or something, alluding to the character, but not actually being them. But then, I’m a sucker for playing around with face-types.

Now see, I thought Chuckie actually looked intriguing lol. I could at least see the character doing something unusual like that with his hair later on, sunburning easy on those spots (real red heads/irish skin usually does), still wearing purplish glasses, and liking star trek :P

I thought he was delightfully quirky hehe

While she is talented, I feel like they just grew up and lost whatever distinctive feature they had as kids. And they all grew up to be hipsters…

  • Anonymous

I like Chuckie the best, actually. He still looks like the dorky awkward baby version.

  • Emily Walton

Really? I could totally see Chuckie growing up to be a hipster.

  • Emily Walton

IKR? I’m all about Arnold and Gerald right now…

  • Mr The Batman

Pepper Ann is really the, in my opinion, the best of the collection, purely because she actually (minus the fact more detailled facial features were added in) looks like her original model.

The rest are well drawn and coloured, but some of them look like they’ve had reconstructive surgery.

  • LifeLessons

    I like very much.

  • Robert Vary

    Aw, no Doug Funnie.

  • BabeWoreRed

They’re also ALWAYS hipsters…like everyone grew up and nobody maintained a distinctive sense of style…

  • makenzie

I like the Ottawa Jazz Fest t-shirt on Arnold. :P Appreciated.
I was volunteering backstage at the fest. I wish there was someone that pretty there. :P

I love this idea. Your drawings are super cute.
