Some dates are hard to forget
Meeting someone from Instagram can be a gamble, especially when their photos don’t quite match reality. One Los Angeles woman thought she was going on a date with a man in his early 20s. Instead, she claims she ended up having the worst first date of her life.
An unexpected age difference might be something you can overlook. However, having someone spend an entire date talking about himself and telling you what to do with your career is a different matter. Even when someone is willing to look past a misleading dating profile, the conversation afterward can make things considerably worse.
Greta Devereux (@greta.div) shared her experience in a tearful TikTok, explaining that a man who contacted her on Instagram appeared to be around 23. When they finally met, she believed he was actually 35. However, his age was hardly her biggest concern. She claims he spent their date trying to convince her to make adult content, leaving her so uncomfortable that she walked out before finishing her meal.
It only got worse from there
Devereux suspected the man had posted old photos of himself on Instagram. Although she was surprised by his appearance, she continued with the date. However, things quickly became uncomfortable when they entered the bar. She claims he barely looked at her and instead kept staring at other women.
Once they sat down, the conversation apparently became all about him. According to Devereux, the man spent much of their time bragging about managing influencers rather than trying to get to know her. “All he’s doing is bragging,” she recalled, explaining that his behavior made the evening increasingly frustrating.
Then came a proposal she hadn’t expected. Devereux alleges that he began encouraging her to create content for OnlyFans, telling her it could help grow her online presence. He also suggested that she move to Miami and offered to help her succeed. However, she had gone there expecting a date, not unsolicited advice about entering the adult content industry.
For Devereux, the situation had become too uncomfortable to continue. Much like discovering that a potential date isn’t who you expected, the age discrepancy was only the beginning of her problems. She eventually walked out before finishing her food, later questioning whether this was what dating in Los Angeles was really like.
She also pointed out that the man hadn’t even complimented her appearance. “Did not even call me pretty or anything,” she added. By her account, he seemed far more interested in discussing his connections and the opportunities he could offer her than getting to know her.
The video drew mixed reactions, with some viewers questioning why the experience had left her crying. “Baby why are we crying,” one person asked. Another wrote, “How do you let a random person affect you that much emotionally?” Someone else commented, “You do know you can just… leave the date right?”
Others defended Devereux. “It’s OK to be upset, Im sure you had your hopes up. Dating sucks,” one viewer commented. Another wrote, “Guys I don’t think it’s about this one date it’s about how demoralizing it is to know that this is an average dating experience and the absolute fatigue it causes you.”
Some commenters also criticized Devereux for suggesting that the man’s unusual behavior might indicate autism. “You shouldn’t say that about people with Autism. That’s just really not nice,” one person wrote. Others questioned the harsh responses directed at her. “What the hell is wrong with these comments? Can people not have emotions?” another viewer asked.
Devereux has publicly shared her version of the encounter. However, the man’s account of the date has not been independently established.
