Now You Can Watch The Preview for Gender-Swapped Adventure Time

Meet Fionna and Cake, the new, female versions of Adventure Time leads Finn and Jake. The first official preview of their episode was shown at Comic-Con this weekend; they will be featured in the show’s third season, in an episode to air September 5th. Madeleine Martin will voice Fionna the Human, Roz Ryan is Cake (short for Pancake) the Cat, Grey DeLisle is the Ice Queen, and Neil Freaking Patrick Harris is Prince Gumball.

Gender swapped Adventure Time was created at least in the beginning by character designer for the show Natasha Allegri, and we look forward to watching such a loopy show with strong roots in subverting adventure tropes subvert its own setting the hardest.

    I want to be excited about this, I really do – I spend way more time than I should swapping genders of TV/movie characters in my head.

    But I hate Fionna’s voice. She doesn’t sound at all confident – even when just engaging in minor dialogue, Finn always sounds sure of himself and upbeat. Fionna sounded like she was unsure of everything she said.

    So, my SO and I were going to be Finn and Marceline for Halloween this year. Now we’ve decided to be Fiona and Marshall Lee (the male version of Marceline according to the Adventure Time Wiki). I’ve been very excited about this for a long time, even if Fiona is dressed a little more anime girl-esque than I like.

    I saw Natasha Allegri’s concept sketches for the genderswaps on her Tumblr way back when. I love how she gave Fionna pudgy knees.

    Well, I’M friggen psyched! Even if there are some things that didn’t survive the gender-swap. (Such as Finn’s age and Ice King’s awkwardness.) I’m also excited for these voices, Roz Ryan and Grey Delisle in particular.
