‘Yeah, reading from a script’: JD Vance shows clarity on Epstein, only to ruin it by quickly falling back into Trump’s defense

A video of U.S. Vice President JD Vance from a recent Turning Point USA event is gaining a lot of attention on social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), for all the wrong reasons. So, what actually happened in it?

For those unaware, during these Turning Point USA events, the audience, mainly teenagers or young people, is allowed to ask questions. In this particular case, the guest was JD Vance, and following the event’s protocol, someone asked him a question about the Jeffrey Epstein investigation. While Vance initially started strong by expressing support for the victims of the disgraced financier and sex offender (a rare gesture for him), he soon shifted from showing empathy for the victims to acting as an apologist for Trump, even though the situation didn’t call for that.

JD Vance says powerful people have more responsibility

At the Turning Point USA event held this Monday, JD Vance was asked to answer a question related to the Jeffrey Epstein case. The person, who appears to be a student, highlighted how Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that the Jeffrey Epstein case was a hoax. He also raised questions about trust in the Department of Justice, which he believes didn’t thoroughly investigate Epstein or the people connected to him who might be guilty of heinous crimes against women, including government officials. Given all these circumstances, he asked Vance to share his stance on the issue.

In response, JD Vance said that it was certain Jeffrey Epstein was a “scumbag.” He also stated that it was known he had close links to intelligence agencies both inside and outside the U.S., and to “a lot of wealthy and powerful people.” Regarding his stance, Vance said he has been “a firm advocate” for bringing justice to Epstein’s victims and believes investigations should go where there’s “something to investigate.” He added that he is “probably more obsessed with this (Epstein case) than most officials.” Citing an email involved in Epstein documents that supports the Pizzagate conspiracy theory, Vance said that those people involved should definitely be investigated. He also emphasized that when evidence of sexual misconduct is found, the involved individuals should be investigated regardless of their power, and that it’s even more crucial to interrogate if they hold influential positions.

JD Vance defends Donald Trump’s “hoax” comments

After affirming his support for Epstein’s victims and his openness to investigations regardless of people’s positions, Vance shifted tone and responded to the first part of the question posed earlier during the recent Turning Point USA event.

Vance clarified that when Trump called the Epstein case a “hoax,” he meant that the “hoax” referred to was the Democrat narrative claiming Trump was involved in Epstein’s crimes, not the case itself. Vance explained that everyone in Palm Beach knew each other, making it normal for Trump to have interacted with Epstein. However, he emphasized that this does not mean Trump was involved in crimes against women.
