Woman recounts her ‘narcissistic’ mother who prevented her from having female friends, then shares details involving Gilmore Girls: ‘psychotic’

Growing up in toxic households is complex, and more people than you realize are in one than you would expect. For those individuals, they see the world very differently from others who haven’t been psychologically affected by their family.
For TikTok user @jules_must_die, growing up with a narcissistic mother was no joke. She always had to be on edge, constantly anticipating her next move. If it wasn’t for her mother’s “pick me” behavior, which included advising @jules_must_die to only keep male friends and stay away from female friends, it was her mother’s constant lying, using plots and storylines from Gilmore Girls, and making up stories that ended up harming @jules_must_die and, indirectly, others around her. That being said, if anyone’s wondering how @jules_must_die is doing now, she has since been adopted and is very happy with her new mom.
TikTok user @jules_must_die rants about her narcissistic mother
On October 17, 2025, @jules_must_die uploaded a video in which she talked about living with a narcissistic mother. She shared one of her strangest experiences while living with her, mentioning that her mother never approved of Jules having female friends. Whenever the situation arose, her mother would steer Jules toward male friends, claiming they were less complicated and would actively prevent her from befriending girls. Even when Jules managed to make female friends, her mother would nitpick, tear them down, and work actively to break their friendships. She would also frequently try to pit Jules against these female friends and would create jealousy by spotlighting topics like someone’s makeup, which she looked down upon, even though Jules was also wearing makeup at the time. Jules’s mother also tried to convince her that she was very popular among boys, and that her “naughty interests,” including hobbies like comic books and Star Wars, were “a naughty boy’s wet dream.”
@jules_must_die mentions in her video that when she was around 13 years old, she was kicked out of the house by her mother and then ran away. After that, Jules moved around for a while before being taken in and adopted. She revealed that her biological mother was very angry when she found out, but she doesn’t understand why, since she was the one who kicked her out and hadn’t been in contact for about a year. Jules also said that her mother was obsessed with lying, just for the sake of it, and without any reason. For example, Jules said that her mother once claimed that one of her friends had breast cancer, then gave her updates on her health and recovery, only for Jules to find out later that her friend had never been affected by the disease. She also pointed out that one of the wildest things about her mother was her obsession with Gilmore Girls. Jules recalled that she had watched Gilmore Girls a few months earlier and was stunned to realize that her mother used to imitate scenes from the show in real life. Not only did she find out her mother used to cut her hair the same way Rory did across seasons, but she would also dress her in the same outfits. One of the craziest stories her mother shared, which was also connected to Gilmore Girls, was about an argument she supposedly had with her parents when Jules was very young. She had said that they wanted her to marry Jules’s father, but she was reluctant because she was too young. Jules said that never actually happened, but it did happen on Gilmore Girls. Crazy stuff!!

- Six in 10 children, or 400 million children under age 5, regularly experience physical punishment and/or psychological violence from parents and caregivers.
- One in 5 women and 1 in 7 men report having been sexually abused as children.
- Child maltreatment can lead to lifelong physical and mental health problems, and the social and work-related consequences may slow a country’s economic and social growth.
- Child maltreatment often remains hidden. Only a small number of child victims receive support from healthcare professionals.
- Children who are abused are more likely to abuse others as adults, passing violence from one generation to the next.
- Preventing child maltreatment before it occurs is possible. Effective prevention strategies include supporting parents, teaching positive parenting skills, and strengthening laws against violent punishment.
