‘I always assume the worst’: Movie theater worker shares what she does when girls pay for dates. Now people are calling her a ‘girl’s girl’

Everyone needs a guardian angel sometimes—but you probably wouldn’t expect them to be your local movie theater worker. Still, for one woman on a movie date, cinema employee Jaden Costello (@jaden.sue) went above and beyond to be a “girl’s girl.”
The viral TikTok, which has amassed 7 million views, begins with Costello behind the counter looking at the camera, with on-screen text reading: “When I see the girl get out her wallet to pay for the date.” The camera then pans to her screen, which shows her recording the seats as child seats, presumably to make them a cheaper ticket price.
In the video description, she added, “She deserves a discount (I always assume the worst). Especially when he proceeds to order our entire menu.”
Costello didn’t immediately respond to The Mary Sue’s request for comment via TikTok comment and email.
Viewers were divided
While the video proved popular, it has also been rather divisive, with the comment section especially splitting into two camps.
On the one side, there were those who praised Costello. “You the real one for that, may your pocket be full of money,” one wrote. “My girl paid for me on my b-day dinner,” a second revealed, “so I greatly respect this ngl.”
While a third proclaimed, “You are such a girl’s girl for that, thank you queen.”
On the other side, there were those commenters who argued that this undermined ideas of gender equality.
“It’s 2026, why are we still pushing gender roles?” a fourth asked, while a fifth queried, “I thought you wanted equality?” Similarly, a sixth quipped, “I thought you were strong and independent,” to which Costello replied: “I’ve never said that.”

Tennessee woman goes viral after man pays for date
Over on TikTok, the “should men pay” debate has been rumbling on for a while—and one TikToker from Tennessee went viral after revealing one man’s bizarre reaction to paying for a date.
“So I just got home from a date where, I mean, it went OK, it was, it was whatever,” TikTok user Sarah Schoemaker (@sarahschoemaker) told viewers. “But he bought my dinner, he walked me to my car, and we’re standing there, and I said, ‘Thank you so much for dinner.’ And he said, ‘Yeah, I wasn’t sure how that was going to go. It was all in one check, so I just paid.’ And I was like, ‘Well, were you wanting me to pay for my half?’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, that’d be great, actually. ‘ And [he] sent me his Cash App as we stood there, and then asked if I would like to go out again tomorrow.”
Needless t0 say, she wasn’t keen to go on a second date.
