Woman Panics After Spotting Huge Bug Inside Her Car. Then She Called a Police Officer for Help: ‘Don’t Think I’m Crazy!’

Valid reaction.

Woman calls a police officer for help with a bug

All of us have something that we truly fear, which can sometimes lead us to do things in a fit of panic. For one woman, she unexpectedly found an unwelcome passenger in her car that made her call a police officer: a cicada. On TikTok, a woman named Cat (@cat01._) shared her moment of panic as she and a police officer worked together to drive the seemingly terrifying bug away.

In Cat’s video, which has since accumulated more than 3.9 million views, she wrote in the on-screen caption, “POV: you stop the police to kill a bug in my car.” According to Cat, she had spotted the bug around her windshield when she was driving. She claimed that it was a “big a** black bug,” to the point that she pulled over at the side of the road and immediately jumped out.

Cat alleged that she started screaming for help for around 10 minutes before she spotted a police cruiser out on patrol. According to Cat, she immediately flagged down the police officer when they drove past her. Luckily for her, the police officer noticed her and turned back around to assist her bug problem.

Police Found the Situation Hilarious

Cat said she explained the situation to the police officer, with the attending officer supposedly laughing at the predicament Cat found herself in before helping her look for the cicada. In the video, Cat and the police officer can be seen looking around inside the car.

The situation seemed to turn dire for Cat when she realized the cicada was no longer where she last saw it and had disappeared somewhere inside. “It was crawling up here!” she said. “For real, ya’ll. And I got a video, so ya’ll don’t think I’m crazy.”

Cat and the police officer continued their search, flashing the interior with a light. At one point, the police officer allegedly asked Cat if she had a shoe they could use to throw right at the cicada. “[He] say, ‘[you] got a shoe I can use?’ I threw my shoe off so fast and said, ‘Kill it,’” which seemed to explain why Cat was missing a shoe during the incident.

Cat continued searching around the driver’s side before she suddenly backed away and yelled for the police officer to come over. They had finally spotted the cicada, and the officer used a police baton to supposedly scare the bug away.

When the cicada finally flew away, Cat expressed her relief and profusely thanked the police officer for his help. “Thank you. You see how big it was, alright,” Cat said before running over to the officer to seemingly seek validation that her panic over the cicada’s size was understandable.

Cicada Is a Harmless Bug

Cicadas range from 2cm to 5cm in size and are medium to large insects. Fortunately for Cat, cicadas are entirely harmless creatures as they don’t bite, sting, or carry any diseases. And while they are a loud bunch, they are usually only active during the day. Interestingly, cicadas also have a lack of interest in humans, so they won’t actively seek out people given their short lifespan.

Cat’s viewers were left rather amused by the entire ordeal, and validated her reaction by sharing their own experiences with bugs. “OH MY GOD, THAT WAS A CICADA GIRL YOU AIN’T WRONG I WOULD’VE DONE THE SAME THING OR CRASHED,” one comment read. “A roach fell through my sunroof one time in New Orleans and I jumped out of the car, didn’t even put it in Park. A homeless man jumped in it, put it in Park and killed the bug for me. I gave that man $40 lmaooooooooooo,” a viewer shared.

Some joked that the video could give people an idea on how to rob their car using a bug: “Someone is gonna use a grasshopper to rob you one day if you keep putting your business out there like this.” While another teased that the officer was also scared, saying, “He scared too.” Cat eventually returned to her car and ended the incident with an “I love the police.”
