Woman is not sorry after kissing Tinder date goodbye and calling an Uber. Too late as the man found out his $37,000 Rolex was missing
A first date going badly usually means an awkward dinner or a number getting blocked afterward. One Miami man allegedly ended his night with a much more expensive problem, and he apparently did not realize anything was wrong until after kissing his date goodbye.
The two had met on Tinder before taking their match offline for dinner. Although unexpected red flags can emerge from a Tinder match, nothing about this date seemed particularly alarming at first. The night seemingly ended on good terms, with the man even paying for his date’s Uber home.
According to Law&Crime, he soon discovered that a Rolex worth $37,000 was missing. Police eventually arrested the woman he had spent the evening with, but her account of what happened that night was very different from his. She denied taking anything and offered investigators an explanation of her own.
He thought the date was over
Alexia Jocelyn Flores, 24, allegedly connected with the man through Tinder before the pair went out to dinner in Miami, Florida, on September 19. They later returned to his apartment in Panorama Tower on Brickell Bay Drive, where authorities said they spent several hours drinking together.
At around 2:30 a.m., the man asked Flores to leave. The arrest report states that he remained on the living room couch while she got dressed in the bedroom and bathroom. He later walked her to the elevator, where surveillance footage reportedly captured the pair kissing goodbye.
The man also arranged and paid for an Uber to take Flores home. After returning to his apartment, he allegedly noticed that two watches had disappeared from the nightstand beside his bed. One was the $37,000 Rolex, for which he later provided police with a purchase receipt.
The man reportedly did not see Flores take either watch. He tried to contact her afterward and discovered that she had blocked him. Investigators also reportedly had surveillance footage showing Flores leaving the building.
The following day, the man provided police with a sworn statement about the encounter. Investigators presented him with a six-person photo lineup, and he identified Flores as the woman who had been inside his apartment that night.
Police eventually located Flores near North Miami Avenue and Northwest 21st Street in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood on Wednesday. Officers took her into custody before transporting her to police headquarters for questioning.
After receiving her Miranda rights, Flores reportedly confirmed several parts of the man’s account. She acknowledged meeting him through Tinder, going out to dinner, and spending time at his apartment. However, she disputed the allegation at the center of the investigation.
Flores denied stealing either watch. Instead, she reportedly told investigators that she believed she had been drugged during the night and could not remember what happened afterward. The arrest affidavit states that she had not separately reported the alleged drugging to police.
Her statement presented investigators with a substantially different account of what happened inside the apartment. The man’s allegation centers on the watches disappearing while Flores was there, while Flores maintains that she did not take them and claims she cannot recall part of the evening.
Authorities arrested Flores on a grand theft charge involving property valued at more than $20,000 but less than $100,000. She was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where a judge set her bond at $7,500.
Court records show that Flores has pleaded not guilty. A judge also appointed a public defender to represent her and ordered Flores to stay away from the man while the case proceeds.
For now, the criminal charge remains an allegation. Although police arrested Flores following the man’s complaint and subsequent investigation, she continues to deny stealing the watches, and her guilt has not been established in court.
