Woman has the worst Hinge date ever when her match hijacks the day with a 9-hour surprise surf trip. Then makes her feel guilty for being miserable
Some dates linger longer than others
A bad first date can feel endless. For Olivia Knox, it apparently came pretty close. What was supposed to be a simple meal with a Hinge match turned into a nine-hour date she never expected.
Olivia had already told him she did not want to go surfing. He agreed they could get food instead. But once she got into his car, that plan quickly changed.
Olivia (@oliviaknoxofficial) recalled the date in a TikTok video that has drawn more than 483,000 views. She noticed the navigation showed a 90-minute drive from Los Angeles to Newport Beach. She was already nervous, and letting her Hinge date decide where they were going only made things worse. When they arrived, she learned he had brought her there to surf anyway.
Then things started getting weird
Once they reached Newport Beach, Olivia claims her date opened the trunk and started changing into a wetsuit. He had even brought an extra wetsuit for her.
“We’re gonna go catch some waves,” she recalled him telling her. Olivia, however, had already told him before the date that she did not want to go surfing.
She stayed on the beach while he went into the water. According to Olivia, there were barely any waves, and it eventually started raining. She called a friend and considered leaving, but an Uber would have cost around $200.
When her date came back, he was apparently upset that she had not been watching him. “You weren’t even watching me,” Olivia recalled him saying.
That was when she finally spoke up. “This is ridiculous,” she told him. “You said that we were gonna go get dinner. I told you that I didn’t even want to go surfing in the first place?”
She also pointed out that it was raining and her feet hurt. Her date apologized and suggested they return to the car. Olivia described herself at the time as a “peak people pleaser,” and soon found herself apologizing too.
The date somehow continued. He offered to get her food to make up for what happened, so they stopped for poke. While they waited, Olivia claims he scrolled through old photos of his abs and muscles and talked about how much money he expected to make.
Next came McDonald’s. Her date ordered an Oreo McFlurry without initially asking Olivia if she wanted anything. When she asked for two spoons, he apparently took issue with that too.
“You don’t wanna share a spoon with me?” she recalled him asking. Olivia refused, and she claims he continued making fun of her over the separate spoons.
Her date then told her he had “one more spot” and wanted another chance to make things up to her. Olivia agreed to go. The destination turned out to be another beach, even farther away.
By then, she had already spent hours far from home with a Hinge date. At the second beach, Olivia claims he grabbed her hand, put it against his mustache, and kissed her hand.
Then he noticed a group of women taking photos nearby. “I hate when women do stuff like that,” Olivia recalled him saying. At that point, she wanted to go home.
The trip back took around two and a half hours. Olivia claims the entire date ultimately lasted nine hours. After finally getting home, she later told him over text that she would not see him again.
Viewers had plenty to say about the experience. “I feel like it was more an hostage situation than a date, girl,” one person commented.
Another offered advice to people new to dating: “It’s ok to ask what the plan is for the date in advance so you can let other people/family/friends whatever know where you are and that you are safe.”
Olivia has not completely given up on Hinge. In the caption, she confirmed that she still goes on Hinge dates, though she added that “they are all bad.”
