Woman boards China Airlines for economy class experience. Then she finds a luxury surprise waiting in her seat: ‘Were stunned to find all this’
The sweetest surprises sometimes wait above the clouds
Flying economy usually means keeping expectations simple. But finding a designer bag waiting at your seat can make even an ordinary flight feel like an upgrade.
What passengers get for their money can vary wildly between airlines. Even a 13-hour international flight can come with unexpected perks, while paying for first class doesn’t always guarantee everything passengers expect. This time, however, the surprise was a good one.
TikTok creator Lydia Franklin (@lydmf) found a Marc Jacobs amenity bag waiting at her seat. In a video posted on August 20 that has reached 1.5 million views, Franklin showed off the unexpected find. But there was one thing about her ticket she hadn’t realized yet.
“What kind of economy is that?!”
“I’m flying China Airlines, and look at what they have on every seat. Economy, mind you, a Marc Jacobs bag,” Franklin told viewers as she picked up the pouch.
She then opened the bag to see what was inside. Franklin pulled out slippers and an eye mask before finding hand cream and lip balm, earplugs, and a dental kit. After going through everything included in the pouch, she had a simple reaction: “Amazing.”
For someone who believed she had booked an ordinary economy seat, the amenities understandably came as a surprise. However, people watching the video soon started noticing clues that Franklin might not be sitting where she thought she was.
Several viewers pointed to the amount of space around her and quickly questioned whether the cabin was actually regular economy. “Beloved, I fear that’s premium economy,” one person commented.
“That’s not economy. That’s premium economy,” another wrote. One viewer was particularly confused by what Franklin was getting, asking, “What kind of economy is that!!!!”
Those viewers turned out to be right. Franklin later added a clarification to the caption explaining that she only discovered her actual cabin class after filming the video. “WE FOUND OUT THIS WAS PREMIUM ECONOMY AFTER I RECORDED THIS,” she wrote.
Franklin also explained how the confusion happened. According to her caption, she and her travel companion had simply booked the cheapest tickets they could find. That apparently left them unaware they would be traveling in Premium Economy until they were already onboard.
“We just booked the cheapest tickets and were stunned to find all this!!” she added.
The Marc Jacobs pouch was also more than an unexpected airline freebie. China Airlines launched a collaboration with Marc Jacobs in 2026 that brought the fashion brand’s amenity kits to its Premium Economy service. The kits are part of the airline’s effort to add more premium touches for passengers traveling on long-haul routes.
China Airlines is based in Taiwan, a distinction that also came up in Franklin’s comments after some viewers seemingly confused the carrier with airlines based in mainland China. One person offered a “quick reminder” that China Airlines is “from Taiwan NOT china.”
Meanwhile, plenty of viewers were more interested in getting their hands on the designer pouch themselves. “All I heard was free Marc Jacob’s makeup bag and headphones consider the trip booked,” one person joked.
Others said Franklin’s surprise reminded them of a time when airlines routinely offered passengers more complimentary amenities. “I miss when airlines used to give you little gifts, now its only for business and first class,” one commenter wrote.
Franklin may have been wrong about being in regular economy, but the correction hardly took away from her excitement. She thought she had simply bought the cheapest tickets available, only to board the plane and discover that a Marc Jacobs bag and a Premium Economy experience were waiting for her.
