We’re Definitely Going To Need a Second Season of ‘Gen V’

Gen V is heading into the final two episodes of its first season, and it feels like it went by too fast. After just six episodes, the series is already shaking up The Boys‘ universe and proving itself a more than worthy successor, making viewers curious about the show’s future.

It’s pretty much impossible for Gen V to wrap up its story by the season finale. Yes, it might find a way to satisfyingly conclude the current story about what Godolkin University is really up to, but that’s far from the only story it has to deal with. The series introduces an entire university filled with young supes who are powerful, traumatized, and have the most intense and obscure powers in The Boys‘ universe. They’re not going to magically go away after season 1, and there are far too many to transition to The Boys. Additionally, Vought’s corruption runs so deep and comes with so many layers that there’s a high chance The Woods is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what’s going on at Godolkin.

The Gen V characters are also arguably more interesting than those in The Boys. The Boys‘ supes at least get to believe their powers were god-given for a time. However, in Gen V, we have countless supes who have barely reached adulthood, are already disillusioned with Vought, and are angry with the knowledge that their parents shot them up with drugs. If anyone has the power to take down Vought and spark real change, it’s an entire college made up of supes with chips on their shoulders. Needless to say, one season of Gen V simply won’t do; we absolutely need a few more.

Fortunately, viewers can rest assured that Gen V is returning for its sophomore season. The show has been doing so well that it nabbed a speedy season 2 renewal from Amazon Prime before its first season even concluded. Of renewing the series, the head of television at Amazon MGM studios, Vernon Sanders, stated:

Expanding the universe of ‘The Boys’ with a series as bold as ‘Gen V’ has been an incredible journey for us and our wonderful partners at Sony. From our first conversation with showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, along with Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen, we knew ‘Gen V’ would push the boundaries. Their unapologetic approach is exactly what audiences love, and it has helped ‘Gen V’ become the No. 1 series on Prime Video in over 130 countries. ‘Gen V’ is Prime Video’s most acquisitive new Original series of 2023, and we’re excited that our incredible cast and crew are going to continue telling brave and bold stories from ‘Gen V’ to our customers.

An additional season of Gen V also means more room to build its connection to The Boys. The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has discussed plans for Gen V to serve as a handoff to The Boys season 4, which will then serve as a handoff to Gen V season 2. So even though Gen V season 2 is quite far off, The Boys season 4 may already hint at what the season will entail. It’s interesting to see the two shows build off each other and give viewers a sufficient dose of The Boys universe.

The upcoming season finale of Gen V will be all the more enjoyable with the knowledge that there is still much more to come for the series.
