Why is Cassie’s Wedding Dress from Euphoria so Bland? TikTok Explains

Why does Cassie's wedding dress from Euphoria look flat? This bridal stylist explains why.

Euphoria trended because of Cassie and Nate’s wedding scene. The episode went viral for its brutality and dark humor—people simply couldn’t look away from the trainwreck. The blood and the revelations all unfolded in a seemingly perfect wedding. Every detail has been thought about, from the flowers down to Cassie’s wedding dress.

But for such an extravagant wedding, Cassie’s dress looked a teeny bit bland. This isn’t to say Sydney Sweeney would ever look physically unattractive—putting her controversies aside, it would be a challenge to make her look awful. But Euphoria managed to make her look “basic” at her wedding.

Kennedy Bingham (@gowneyedgirl on TikTok), who is a bridal stylist, explained why the designer piece fell flat on Sweeney. Bingham believes that the bland, designer dress was an intentional stylistic choice by Natasha Newman-Thomas that perfectly conveys Cassie’s character on screen.

“A bridal look is such a useful tool in portraying a character’s personality, their intentions, the image they’re trying to put out there,” Bingham explained. She also gave context to the dress as a collaboration between Newman-Thomas and Jackson Wiederhoeft.

“Every bridal stylist in the US of A noticed this was a Wiederhoeft immediately when it came onto the screen. But I will have to say, I hesitated for a second and thought maybe it could be somebody else because something about it felt off,” said Bingham. Although Wiederhoeft’s signature corsetry was present, Bingham commented that the design looked “flat” in comparison to other designs from the atelier.

Euphoria makes an intentional choices

“Wiederhoeft is a designer known for their corsetry but also their amazing embroidery work,” Bingham said, referencing a gown by Wiederhoeft worn by Cynthia Erivo. “Their dresses are couture, customizable, and so unique to each bride.” Because of this, Bingham was surprised when Cassie’s dress ended up looking “plain.”

But then, she realized it was the perfect choice for the character. “Cassie is such a simple person. She knows what’s trending, but she does not understand why. We saw throughout season two that Cassie doesn’t really have a personality. She just mirrors what she thinks is desirable.”

Bingham says that Cassie’s lack of personality is emphasized by the conversation she had with Maddy by the poolside. Maddy definitely made a point that Cassie had no taste or personality, but she didn’t need to. Cassie talked about wanting to get famous, but she didn’t have any talents that would make her interesting. Putting aside the poolside conversation, even her choices throughout the season have been determined by appearances. It doesn’t get anymore shallow than joining OnlyFans just to buy floral arrangements for the wedding, all because she didn’t want to look “poor.”

It took a lot of money to make Cassie look cheap

“I think it’s an amazing, talented couture designer like Wiederhoeft—and then add absolutely no personality to the dress,” Bingham remarked. She added that bridal dresses are a collaboration between the bride and the designer. The bride has a vision, and the designer translates it into the dress. But if the bride hardly has any vision, it wouldn’t be surprising for a soulless dress to be the output.

Cassie’s wedding looked like a mishmash of bridal TikTok and Pinterest trends thrown together, and it worked. It may not have had “personality,” but it did convey Cassie’s victory. What was hiding in plain sight—from her clothes to the decor—was the hollowness of her success. A meaningless show was all there was. But what Cassie truly got in Euphoria 3 was a husband in debt and a future that might bury her alive.
