‘What a hero’: Man vanishes after walking into the forest, then returns as part of his own search party

Getting lost in the woods is scary enough. But imagine joining a search party without realizing everyone is looking for you. One man somehow managed to do exactly that.
What started as a night of drinking turned into a search operation. The missing man eventually joined the search himself, completely unaware that he was the reason everyone was there.
The incident from Turkey has resurfaced after TikTok user @lynewsdaily shared a video that attracted 297.9K views. While walking into the woods can lead to unexpected trouble, this man ended up in a situation nobody saw coming.
Things were about to get even stranger
The man, identified as Beyhan Mutlu, made headlines in September 2021 after an unusual disappearance in Turkey. According to the viral video’s narration, the 50-year-old construction worker had been drinking with his colleagues at a remote villa project. At some point during the night, he wandered away from the group and failed to return.
The video claims Mutlu entered the woods to urinate but walked too far and decided to sleep near some trees. Meanwhile, his colleagues grew worried when he didn’t come back. They reportedly tried contacting him but couldn’t reach him because he had recently changed his phone number. Eventually, they contacted a search team.
As the search continued, Mutlu woke up and encountered people looking for someone in the area. Apparently, he had no idea they were searching for him. Instead of asking too many questions, he offered to help, reportedly telling the team that he knew the area well.
The situation became even more ridiculous when he joined the search without anyone recognizing him. According to the video, the darkness made it difficult for the volunteers to see his face. As a result, Mutlu continued looking for the missing person alongside everyone else.
Eventually, one of his worried colleagues called out his name. Mutlu reportedly responded by asking whether they were looking for him before announcing that he was right there. His unexpected response finally brought the search to an end.
Mutlu later spoke to Turkish media about the incident, although his account differed slightly from the viral narration. He explained that he had fallen asleep at a villa and participated in the search for more than half an hour. The rescuers initially struggled to believe he was the missing person until one of his friends confirmed his identity.
The whole situation sounds like something straight out of a comedy. Much like a man who accidentally got caught up in a stranger’s family drama, Mutlu found himself involved in a situation he never intended to join.
The viral video also claims that alcohol was completely banned at the construction project following the incident. However, that detail has not been independently verified. Mutlu was eventually able to return home safely.
Viewers couldn’t stop laughing at the misunderstanding. One person commented, “He helped find himself, what a hero.” Someone else joked, “I think this is what the girls meant when they say I need to find myself first.”
Others imagined how his colleagues must have reacted. “His co-workers will never forgive him of his actions,” one viewer wrote. Another compared the situation to “me looking for my phone with my phone flashlight,” while someone simply called Mutlu a “legend.”
One commenter even wondered what happened after the incident, writing, “when he got home his wife didn’t believe him.” Although the disappearance caused genuine concern, Mutlu’s unexpected participation gave viewers plenty to laugh about. He might not have known who he was looking for, but he certainly helped bring the search to an end.
