Twitter engineer Ben Sandofsky has created this captivating Code Swarm video representing the growth of Twitter from April 2006 to January 2010. Icons represent developers, and particles represent files committed or changed.

As Jason Kottke notes, the real data explosion comes towards the end, when more than twenty developers start blasting out waves of modifications with greater and greater speed.
