‘Two months of paid vacation’: Jim McGovern just torched Republicans with ‘missing person posters’ after their eight-week disappearing act
The American government may finally be reopening after the Senate recently voted to extend the Continuing Resolution. This means that all the Republican members who had been away on paid vacations for over a month during the government shutdown are required to return to work. They might not be too happy about this, but this time they have no excuses to give for their absence.
As the Republicans returned to their offices today, after a prolonged period of absence owing to the government shutdown, U.S. House Representative Jim McGovern had a few words for them. On their first day back, McGovern welcomed everyone, stating that he didn’t recognise the people before him since he hadn’t seen them in a long time. He asked them where “the hell” they had been all this time and expressed happiness over seeing them back at the Capitol. McGovern mocked the Republicans for their absence, saying that he and his Democratic colleagues had been searching for them and had even started handing out “missing person” posters. He pointed out that nobody had seen the Republicans for “eight weeks” and remarked that he was glad they had “survived” their “nice two-month paid vacation” while Democrats remained in Washington trying to “end the shutdown.”
As videos of Jim McGovern taking digs at the Republicans for their prolonged absence began to circulate on social media, many people joined the conversation. One person on X (formerly Twitter) said:
“Two months of paid vacation while Americans face crises, Congress really knows how to pick priorities.”
Another person said:
“McGovern just delivered the roast of the century. Eight weeks of taxpayer-funded hide-and-seek and now they stroll back like nothing happened. Congress went on vacation, the country didn’t. Reality just RSVP’d.”
Several others on the platform echoed similar sentiments as they appreciated McGovern for calling the Republicans out on their behaviour.
