Everything Is Beautiful and Nothing Hurts: Trio of The Raid Actors Join Episode VII

THE BADASS AWAKENS.

This bodes well.

Fans have received numerous assurances that J.J. Abrams’ foray into the Star Wars universe will avoid the prequels’ abuse of CGI, but the movie’s commitment to authenticity may go beyond its sets or effects: a trio of highly acclaimed martial artists and weapon experts have joined the cast.

According to IGN, The Raid and Raid 2 stars Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman will all appear in Episode VII–and considering the actors’ respective resumes, kick-assery is now obviously incoming. Serious kick-assery. I mean, come on:

Parsecs are a unit of distance!

Personally, I could not be more excited about this development. Aside from being remarkably skilled martial artists, Uwais, Ruhian and Rahman are also commanding actors with a history of working together to mind-boggling effect. Ruhian is typically cast in villainous roles, so while it’s safe to surmise that the trio might be portraying antagonists, I hope I’m wrong—considering the general absence of Asian characters in Star Wars films, it would be incredible if Episode VII broke that mold with some positive representation.
