The Descendants Opening Number is Peak Disney Channel

Beast dad jokes and a teenage supervillain musical number

Kenny Ortega, creator of High School Musical, has a new movie on Disney Channel called The Descendants about the second generation of Disney villains airing this month! Here’s the premise: Belle and the Beast banished all the Disney villains to a single island when they became king and queen. Now, their son Ben, whose inauguration is arriving, wants to bring to the children of Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, Jafar, and the Evil Queen (Mal, Carlos, Jay and Evie, respectively) to the kingdom since “the children are innocent.”

Now, I shamelessly love Sky High where we saw superhero teenagers being all teen-like, but when The Descendants started breaking out lyrics like “I’m rotten to the core” and “Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the baddest of them all” to a Disney-fied dubstep-esque lip-sync dance number I was very confused.

It’s weird to realize you’re no longer the target youth for Disney Channel and you’re probably more similar to dad-joke Beast. What do you think about our misunderstood teenage Disney villains?
