Shrimp scampi is not shrimp alfredo.

Texas woman looked forward to dining at Olive Garden with her sister, until their waiter started insisting on serving them shrimp scampi

Emma Grace Denton (@emmagracedentonnn) from Sugarland, Texas, went out to run errands with her sister, who has special needs. They decided to dine at Olive Garden but left unsatisfied because of their waiter.

“I should have complained and been a little bit of a Karen,” Denton told TikTok. She was with her sister, who she said is 22 years old and on the spectrum. Denton wanted to go to lunch, and her sister eagerly suggested Olive Garden.

“She and I already know what we’re gonna get to eat,” Denton said. Unlike this customer, who made her server read the menu, Denton knew what to order. Her sister wanted fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp on top, and Denton added chicken gnocchi soup. The waiter allegedly offered the super salad, but Denton insisted on the chicken gnocchi.

“So, he comes back a few minutes later with a salad,” Denton claimed. They wanted to eat soup, not salad, but she didn’t complain. She and her sister ate the salad and breadsticks, and then the waiter returned. He held out a plate of shrimp scampi and set it down in front of her sister.

“I ordered her the fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp on it,” Denton clarified to the waiter. However, the waiter allegedly defended that the dish he served was the pasta dish that “comes with shrimp.” That wasn’t true, because Olive Garden also serves shrimp Alfredo. Nevertheless, Denton reiterated that it wasn’t the dish her sister wanted.

Their Olive Garden waiter marches to the beat of his own drum

“She’s never had shrimp scampi before,” Denton said. She asked her sister if she wanted to try it, and her sister confirmed she wanted her fettuccine. “Well, just try it,” the waiter allegedly replied. Denton tried to stay calm and asked her sister to try the dish but promised to get her fettuccine if she didn’t like it.

“She tries it, and I can tell she’s a little bit frazzled,” Denton claimed. Her sister said it was “fine.” The waiter allegedly put cheese on their food, then walked away. Denton said she felt “really weird” about the dining experience and planned to leave early. When the waiter brought their drink refills out, Denton expected Dr. Pepper. Instead, she tasted diet Pepsi from her cup.

“Okay, this guy clearly has no idea what we ordered and is just making this s*** up,” Denton said. The incident with her drink was the final straw, and it made Denton get the bill early. She said the manager came out and asked them about their dining experience. Denton claimed that everything was fine, but asked for the bill.

“I did not tip very well, and I’m a very good tipper,” Denton claimed. Tips aren’t mandatory, but some servers expect them. In one instance, a server from Atlanta allegedly tipped themselves 266% of a customer’s total bill, which the customer later disputed. In Denton’s case, she chose not to tip, given the quality of service she received at this Olive Garden branch.

“I should’ve complained, ’cause that’s so rude, too,” Denton expressed. She doesn’t think she’ll return to that Olive Garden branch after the experience, even though she loves the food chain. Regardless, the official Olive Garden TikTok account reached out to Denton. They wrote, “This is disappointing to hear, Emma.” They also encouraged her to email them about her experience so that they can help.
