Boston Woman Asks for 20oz Ribeye Blue Rare at Texas Roadhouse for $38. One Cut Down the Middle, and She Can’t Stay Quiet: ‘Moment of truth’

Texas Roadhouse is one of the biggest steakhouse chains in the US and is known for its hand-cut steaks and custom cooking options. Whether customers prefer their steak well done or much rarer, the restaurant is often expected to cook it the way they order it.
That has also made Texas Roadhouse a regular topic on TikTok, where customers often share videos of their meals and ask viewers whether the restaurant got their order right. Those posts frequently draw mixed reactions, with people offering very different opinions about the same dish.
One of the latest videos came from a TikToker @themoniqueelyousfi who shared her visit to Texas Roadhouse after ordering a 20-ounce ribeye. She invited viewers to see whether the steak had been cooked the way she requested, but the reveal quickly divided people in the comments for very different reasons.
Then came the ‘moment of truth’ with one cut
In the video, the creator explains that she is dining at Texas Roadhouse and has ordered a 20-ounce ribeye after spotting it in the restaurant’s display. She tells viewers, “This thing was $38. Okay, we’re gonna see if the grill master got it to a blue rare, which is what I ordered.” She then cuts into the steak and says, “Moment of truth.”
Looking at the centre, she asks, “What do we think? Is it blue rare or is it just medium rare?” She quickly reaches her own conclusion, telling viewers, “There you have it. It’s supposed to be blue, but it’s still gonna be really raw in the middle. I would say this is actually perfectly blue.”
The creator sprinkles sea salt over the steak before taking a bite. She also praises the crust, saying, “Oh, my gosh, the smell of that, like, sear of the char from the grill.” After tasting it, she delivers her verdict.
“Oh, my gosh, that grilled flavor. You guys, look at this bite. That is the most perfect blue rare steak I think I have ever had.”
The clip is notable because it is not criticising the restaurant. Instead, it celebrates what the creator believes is an accurately prepared blue rare steak, a level of doneness that remains uncommon among mainstream restaurant orders.
Blue rare is typically cooked with a heavily seared exterior while the centre remains very cool and only lightly warmed. The clip is another example of how Texas Roadhouse meals often become talking points on TikTok. Previous videos have focused on customers questioning a takeout steak that didn’t look right and a to-go potato that one diner called the “worst” they had ever seen. This time, however, the conversation centred on a steak the customer believed had been cooked exactly as requested.
It differs from a standard rare steak because the interior spends even less time over the heat. While many steakhouses will prepare a steak this way upon request, it is still unfamiliar to many casual diners, which often leads to strong reactions whenever one appears online.
The comments showed little middle ground. Several viewers joked that the steak looked closer to a living animal than a finished meal. “I believe a decent vet could save it,” one person wrote. Another commented, “Girl it’s Moooo rare.”
Others questioned whether the steak had been cooked enough at all. “I think it’s raw and you’re at risk,” one viewer wrote. “it’s disgusting rare,” another added. One person asked, “why would you want cold meat??”
Another wrote, “Might as well just eat it from the package.” Others simply reacted with, “Looks raw! Yuck!” “I think it’s cold,” and “Yea it’s mooing still.” Some commenters focused on the technical side of steak preparation rather than the appearance alone. “Its rare… but not ‘blue rare’,” one person argued.
