Review: Indie Drama Unexpected Lives Up to Its Title—in a Good Way

And Cobie Smulders has never been better.

The film is, first and foremost, an exceptionally well-written film by Kris Swanberg and cowriter Megan Mercier. That's not to say this film is overwritten or the dialogue feels unnatural. But you sense early on that there is a POV behind this film with something very specific to say, and they've found good actors (Gail Bean and Cobie Smulders) to give voice to the characters they wrote.

Things to Do With Your Kids

Courtesy is very important when you're working with Nick Fury. OK, OK, you wouldn't like the Hulk when he's angry. But you really don't want to be rude to the Director. Are you following The Mary Sue on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, & Google +?

Excelsior!

We've got another movie-to-TV part crossover for Agents of SHIELD: Cobie Smulders's Maria Hill appears in one of the newest trailers for the upcoming Marvel show, and we are very excited. Who wouldn't be, though? There are also two other short previews that came out for the show recently. See them under the cut!

What’s Next for the Women of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Excelsior!

Maria Hill is a character to watch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After all, her immediate superiors are either officially dead or just royally pissed off the board of shadowy figures that apparently has enough power to allow American government employees to make in-no-way-covert strikes on German soil and not cause an international incident. But what does Cobie Smulders, once Joss Whedon's pick for Wonder Woman, have to say about her future in the MCU? Crave Online talked to her and Kat Dennings (Thor's Darcy) about a number of the MCU's female characters and what Winter Soldier, The Dark World, Agents of SHIELD, and even Age of Ultron.

Stars Shine At The Iron Man 3 Red Carpet But Robert Downey Jr. Doesn’t Wear Anything Fun

Excelsior!

Last night we posted a livestream of the Iron Man 3 premiere from the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. Today, Disney has graciously shared some images from the red carpet and after party. I guess I was spoiled by Robert Downey Jr. in lederhosen but I'm a little let down he didn't wear anything wacky. Take a look at the stars from the film and see who else popped up from the Marvel Universe.

Fact From the Vapor of Nuance

Well, the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot has wrapped, so now it's just time for waiting, right? Surely there isn't any more information on the show that we can milk out of Joss Whedon and crew, so let's just await its inevitable greenlighting as a full series, filming, and finally... its airing on television. Oh, who are we kidding, Whedon's going to be answering questions about S.H.I.E.L.D. for the next year. This round, he talks about Marvel characters, Cobie Smulders, and the series' overall tone.

ABC Orders A Pilot For Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. Television Show

Officially Official

Avengers Alternate Opening Is Like the Opening to Avengers 2

Fact From the Vapor of Nuance

Marvel has put this alternate opening scene of The Avengers online for the viewing, as part of its ongoing campaign to get people psyched for the DVD release of the movie (which could have just been accomplished by officially releasing the blooper reel, I mean, come on), and it's totally understandable that this didn't make it into the final film. It places the film in an entirely different sort of narrative loop by beginning with the end, and more than that, it's completely at odds with the tone of the rest of the movie. The Avengers was big, bombastic, optimistic, and blissfully consequence free (aside from a certain S.H.I.E.L.D agent and his friends). What this scene, chock full of Cobie Smulders, feels more like is the opening scene or the teaser trailer for The Avengers 2, a movie that plays up the tension between Smulders' Maria Hill and Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, in the lead up to the colonel being removed from his command just when the world needs him most.

Catch It While It Lasts: The Avengers‘ Gag Reel

Stupid Human Tricks

I'm not entirely certain that this gag reel has been placed online in any official capacity... so we'll have to see how long this particular version remains viewable. But for now, all I can say is: Cobie Smulders for President. Mark Ruffalo and his dainty hops for vice president.
