BuzzFeed directs our attention to one of these made-for-the-Internet clips from what may or may not be some sort of Japanese variety show, wherein we see four goldfish, ‘synchronized swimming,’ apparently guided by the hand motions of a white-hatted man. In the background, demented carnival music plays.

The YouTube comments for the video reflect the video’s central mystery: How are the goldfish being controlled? Are they actually following the hand motions? (Seen as unlikely.) Do they have magnets in their stomachs, which are being guided from beneath the table? (Possible, but cruel.) Are they being guided by a weak electric current? Are they robots? Are they merely ‘afraid of being turned into sushi’? (Umm…)
