School Was Locked Down After Star Wars Fan Threatened to Shoot Friend Over Spoilers

Spoilers lead to anger.

Much of the Internet was heavily invested in avoiding Star Wars: The Force Awakens spoilers last week, and those who were unsuccessful were understandably upset—most of them, anyway. One teen decidedly-not-understandably threatened to shoot a friend over the unwanted sharing of plot details.

When Arthur Charles Roy (18), of Helena, Montana, learned some of the surprise elements of the Star Wars sequel’s plot from a friend on Facebook on Thursday, he gave in to his anger and sent the other teen a picture of himself holding a gun and threats that he’d shoot him at school. Roy reportedly claimed the gun was a Colt 1911 with a “hair trigger,” and his intended victim informed officials at Helena’s alternate high school.

The school was placed on lockdown out of fear that Roy might follow through, but thankfully, he was arrested without incident on Friday. In charging documents, it’s mentioned that Roy’s mother wanted to know why her son was arrested, since the gun in the photo was only a BB gun, according to her.

Meanwhile, Roy remains in jail with a bail of $10,000, because threatening to shoot people with what you insist is a real gun is a serious crime whether you’re pictured holding a BB gun or not. Even if it’s over Star Wars spoilers. Hopefully the justice system can find out if there’s still good in him.
