Anson Mount as Captain Pike in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

INTERVIEW: The Cast of ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Talks Finally Getting on the Enterprise

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is the little show that could—meaning that the reason the show is even here is because fans wanted to see it. And that’s something that the cast clearly knew and appreciated. The minute journalists were let into the roundtable room for Anson Mount—who plays Captain Pike in Discovery and now is captain of the Enterprise in Strange New Worlds—we were greeted with Mount expressing his appreciation for us even being there.

“First of all, thank you all for being here,” Mount said. “And thank you for your interest in the show. It does mean a lot. We don’t take it for granted that we get to do these interviews and that you guys want to talk about it.” But what I loved about the cast as a whole was just how happy they were to talk about their characters and the world they were creating with the new series. In the past, we knew all about Captain Pike thanks to the unaired pilot for the original series.

But talking with some of the cast, it’s clear that they all love bringing these characters to life. One of the most fascinating choices comes in the form of Ethan Peck as Spock. We’ve now seen different actors take on the role, and each has brought their own flair to it that works. For Peck, though, he asks the spirit of Leonard Nimoy for guidance.

“Constantly I’m revisiting, I say sort of crazily, Leonard Nimoy’s voice in my head when I’m doing a lot of these scenes. You know, ‘Does this sound right’ ‘Does this feel right’, I’m constantly checking in with I hope the spirit of his Spock.”
